In 18th century, the era of Romanticism, intuition and imagination have been regarded as a crucial media to the enlightenment of knowledge about the universe. At the same time, the principles of Romanticism questioned whether we could allegorize individuals in a ubiquitous world amidst natural sensations of fear, anxiety, and panic; a world without substance that could be forgotten at any time, a place where all things undergo constant change. At this stage, the manifestation of artist’ love toward historical incidents and memories is no longer the same. Try to imagine the corpse-eating scene in The Raft of the Medusa with no blood and flesh being illustrated; Don Quixote’s attack on the windmills which he believes to be ferocious giants all around in cyberspace; or even the revolution in Liberty Leading the People that requires no hero. In the exhibition NEO Romance, Morris Kuo’s work depicts how the state of life for a fish in a tank resembles a post-designed spirit. Upon the framework of natural/unnatural and life/non-life, the accordingly developed structure is like a mirror that reflects the extreme case of the absurd and magical model which can be found in our culture. In the works of LIN Wen-Tsao which the topics range from the countryside to the city or even from downtown to metropolis, they all subject to the shift in space and time. Lin further relates the existence of self to the world through different people, events and object pieces in order to transform the state of dialogue within layers of the above. We also invited CHEN Wei-Han and WU Xiang-Yu to present the unfinished map of Taipei City bus route, which they have been drawing for a year and a half. Looking downward from the sky, the perspective of the map regards the world as an organism and as well as a non-natural portrayal. By presenting the exhibition in two art spaces, tamtamART TAIPEI and Open-Contemporary Art Center, we attempt to construct the physical condition of a new organ.
