————————————————————————————————— High Tide-Taichi YOSHIMURA Solo Exhibition
This exhibition is a solo show by Taichi Yoshimura, an artist who creates woodcarving works based on traces left in urban and public spaces. In recent years, Yoshimura has earnestly confronted the challenges of “referencing” graffiti—an expression he has long been particularly drawn to among these traces.
The starting point of this exhibition dates back to 2021, when he encountered a Taiwanese street artist known as “HorumonBaby.” Through this connection and his interactions with other graffiti writers, Yoshimura began to reflect deeply on questions such as: “What does it mean to leave an expression in public space?” and “What kind of act is it to create a work based on such traces?”
Later, a post by HorumonBaby on social media unexpectedly sparked controversy, bringing to the surface complex issues such as anonymity, copyright, freedom of expression, and differing perspectives. These events have become key motifs in the works presented in this exhibition.
This show is an attempt to give form to the questions and inner conflicts that arose through that process—making them visible through the medium of woodcarving.
