Nguyễn Hoàng Thiên Ngân

In 2025, the Meander Maps Project continues its evolving trajectory between Taiwan and Vietnam by inviting Vietnamese artists to undertake residencies in Taiwan.
Nguyễn Hoàng Thiên Ngân, a translator, is the first participant in the Taiwan residency, extending the project into the fields of language and literature. Based in Hanoi since 2015, she has actively engaged with the local art, film, and independent publishing scene in various assistive roles.
In this casual gathering, Ngân will share from her interest with texts that shapeshift, a brief encounter with a new locality, and a recent work by an artist friend whose practice has anchored and set sail her thinking and imagination. This moment of sharing marks a convergence in her residency, offering an opportunity to further extend her exploration of the evolving relationship between language and her experience in Taiwan, through dialogue with audiences.
━ Meander Maps Since 2023, Open-Contemporary Art Center has collaborated with Hanoi-based art groups Nhà Sàn Collective, Á Space, and ba-bau AIR on the “Meander Maps” project. This project centers on artists’ field research as the main form of exchange, drawing inspiration from the winding Red River as it traverses the ridges and plains of northern Vietnam. Artists wander through the Red River, shaped by the river’s curves, and conduct fieldwork that explores the region’s human geography, natural environment, and socio-political context. Through their personal journeys, they create a collective archive.
━ Nguyễn Hoàng Thiên Ngân Ngân translates and befriends. Since 2015, she has been involved with several Hanoi-based independent initiatives in publishing, arts and culture including Hanoi Doclab, Nhà Sàn Collective, Ajar Press, and Queer Forever in varying roles as a translator, programmer, facilitator, and assistant curator.
