在高森信男策劃的《秘密南方》實驗典藏展「群島資料庫」展區裡，我們看到「生物」（The Biome）展出馬來西亞藝術家符芳俊2017年在臺灣進行的吳郭魚研究，吳郭魚被引進臺灣有一段曲折的往事，兩位台籍日本兵1946年在新加坡戰俘營期間，將牠從帝國水產偷渡回台。「Biome」原意為生存於相近氣候與環境條件區塊的植物和動物群集（community）。「生物」的子題試圖從飲食文化、養殖技術、生物的遷徙與環境議題等角度，解構人類中心並呼應馬來群島作為不同地域、人民、生物、文化和美學共存的開放性與多樣性。藝術家透過吳郭魚的主題探索群島與臺灣之間物種的遷徙軌跡，本次亦展出日軍宣傳吳郭魚作為戰爭糧食的國策片。策展人以全球南方的視野，試圖在戰爭、殖民主義和民族主義之外，開展群島與臺灣間的共享歷史及其於美學應用的多元觀點。

In the “Nusantara Archive” section of The Secret South exhibition in TFAM (curator: Takamori Nobuo; 25 July ~ 25 October 2020), we see artist Hoo Fan Chon focuses on Tilapia during his residency in Taiwan, labeled under “The Biome” subcategory in “Nusantara Archive”, the Tilapia, or commonly pronounced as “Wu Guo Yu” has a captivating story to tell as in how it was introduced to Taiwan by two Taiwanese soldiers repatriated from Singapore in 1946. The definition of a “biome” is a community of flora and fauna that has come together due the common characteristics for the environment they exist in. This subcategory focuses on issues dealing with culinary culture, farming technology, biological migration, and other environmental topics. It deconstructs anthropocentrism and echoes the expansiveness and diverseness observed among the Archipelago’s various regions, people, biology, cultures, and aesthetics. Hoo Fan Chon explores the migration trajectories of the species between the Archipelago and Taiwan. Also on view in this exhibition is a propaganda film produced by the Japanese military to promote this fish as a source of nutrition in wartime. In addition to the themes of war, colonialism, and nationalism, the curation unfolds the shared history between Nusantara and Taiwan through these approaches with varied perspectives of aesthetic practices.
