(Eng) KANTA Taiwan is a photography project exploring the concept of identity. Using a unique camera, Jeffrey Lim has collaborated with local native artist Luc Chen and Posak Jodian during his art residencies in Taiwan. Together they travelled to their ancestral villages of Wutai, Fatáan and other native villages, Lanyu and Xiaobitan. Using a photographic process to produce instant portraits, the collaboration also explored other audio & visual methods. Producing sound clips and film essays, they documented the exploration into the cultural and social circumstances through their native communities.

The artists will be presenting their methodology, findings and reflection from their collaboration. A selected number of printed portraits, audio visual will be exhibited.

About Artists: Jeffrey Lim was born in Kuala Lumpur in 1978. He comes from a background in communication design whose work explores a radical form of photography, urban surveying, and social mapping projects. His interests are located at the intersection of identity and cultural heritage, taking forms of conceptual representation with the use of imagery, found objects, spaces and interactions. Several of his projects explore community building and spaces. His works include: “Bicycle Map Project“ (2014) a crowd-sourced cycling map, “Project ISD“ (2016) an urbanist report, “Attachment“ (2017) the participatory & performative installation, and “KANTA Portraits“ (2012 - ), a series of photographic studies of portraitures. Since 2017, he set out for a research trip to find the connection between the indigenous Peoples in Taiwan and the Austronesian Peoples in Malaysia.
