► About the Event :
In residency at OCAC, Sinta & Vatey will share their common journey in the field of arts that crosses paths with life-related questions such as:
°° What if time is no longer money, can turtle time teach us something°°
°° Why the constant need to present, can we just be present°°
°° Is pace-orientation a more peaceful way than the struggle between goal versus process-orientation°°
°° How to happily unhabit our habits°°
°° How can movement cause mobility of the mind°°
Bumping into each other during the “Mutual Unknown” exhibition with several artists & curators from South-East Asia, Vatey and Sinta connected instantly and together they started to explore (geo)poetics as a way to subvert (geo)politics. Looking up more of the unknown, they initated “watch & wa/onder walkshops” and [re-enacting memories] live exhibitions. Come meet them at OCAC and let’s multiply meanings of art that can meander out of our minds!
Afterwards, we’ll surely be hungry and happy to have dinner outside with those who are hungry too!
►About speakers:
TAN Vatey
TAN Vatey (1992, Phnom Penh) is a visual artist who creates drawings, paintings and mixed-media art installations. She is keen in exploring different art forms and currently experimenting with sound and moving images.
Her interest in contemporary art started with a class at Sa Sa Art Projects in 2016, after which, during a residency at SA SA BASSAC, she created [premature cultures], displaying strings of vegetables slowly suffocating in plastic bags, hanging from the ceiling. This is currently part of the group exhibition “Facing the Climate” touring throughout Cambodia, organized by the Embassy of Sweden in Phnom Penh.
She created [masshgrooming] as part of the CuratorsLab exhibition “Mutual Unknown” at the National Gallery of Indonesia, exploring health issues and mass consumption in Indonesian culture, exhibiting a field of mushrooms made from kretek cigarettes, instant noodles and krupuk (shrimp chips).
Vatey also had a solo-exhibition called [re-enacting memories] with Sinta Widowo in the frame of Europalia Indonesia in Brussels. Her latest creation [power ranges] was presented at Sangker Gallery in Battambang. Vatey did residencies at NEWFOUNDLAND in Mechelen, Belgium at e x t a n t a t i o n in Chiangmai, Thailand and was recently researching farmers’ communities in Shaxi, South-China.

Sinta Wibowo
Sinta Wibowo (1978, Leuven) has her basis in both Brussels & Phnom Penh, with her Indonesian-Chinese parents migrating from Indonesia to Belgium in the 70’s. While studying economics & marketing, Sinta connected to a continuation of projects, festivals and art institutions in the performing arts, film, visual arts and other fields, as a festival maker, cultural strategist & consultant.
She feels well working closely with others like artists, institutions, curators as a caretaker who engages to the realization of their programs and ideas. In these collaborations, Sinta tends to work cross-disciplinary, transsectorially, intra-regionally & transnationally, stimulates experiment in research, mobilizes discourse & methodology, aspires to give more body to diversity, inclusion & outreach, encourages collaborations & partnerships and follows (cultural) policies on local, regional national, & international level. Being involved in different networks, she shifts between centre & periphery, migrating within East-West-Europe, Post-Soviet countries & Asia and enjoys stimulating exchange of experience, knowledge & personal contacts.
A turning point in Sinta’s work and life was the Sideways Walking Arts Festival, where everyone is invited for a stroll and explore ‘pathways’ on foot, as part of an itinerant artistic laboratory. After crossing paths with TAN Vatey in 2017, another dimension of exploration opened with [re-enacting memories] and watch & wa/onder, two avenues where they experiment with the notions of time, space & self in all their relations while creating spaces of togetherness & trust.
